St. Andrews, Fife
This is actually a review of the first 11 holes, because we stopped after that due to lightning! A great pity because we had thoroughly enjoyed a sunny warm morning up till then. The course was in fine condition, the views sensational. I dont think I have seen a better one, and I include well known courses in the Algarve and Spain as well as Turnberry, Royal Troon and Barassie in Scotland. There are some truly excellent holes =- the 12th, over a deep dip, is really scary and requires a big, confident carry. The clubhouse staff are professional and welcoming. When I returned the trolleys they offered me a voucher for another round because we had stopped for the lightning. This was unexpected and hugely generous - and much appreciated as there was of course no obligation. An exceptionally fine course, with every detail pretty much perfect.
