Located in the heart of the Livermore Valley Wine Country, the 27-hole Rees Jones design is reminiscent of the heathland courses of Scotland. Poppy Ridge Golf Course opened in 1996 and is easily accessible to approximately 90,000 of the nearly 175,000 NCGA members who live within a 65-mile radius of the course. The Merlot, Chardonnay and Zinfandel nines offer challenging and enjoyable golf for any level of player. Each nine measures about 3,500 to 3,600 yards from the black tees. Carved in the rugged terrain of the Livermore foot-hills, Poppy Ridge offers spectacular views of the golf course and beyond. Each hole is shaped by extensive bunkering, giving the course a true links feel. Poppy Ridge was rated by Zagat Guide as one of the top 15 courses in the nation for value. The course welcomes public play and it is recommended for visitors to join the NCGA to receive a 45% discount off the $110 public green fee. Remarkable views of rolling hills, four sets of tees, excellent course conditions, 27 championship golf holes, friendly staff, indoor and outdoor restaurant facilities and affordable prices make this a true value in Northern California. Course was in good shape. Fairways were very good and greens well kept. Front desk staff was only average. Asked to play merlot first and said it was too busy and could not play it til 1pm. Starter said they were not busy and go ahead and play merlot. There was no body in front or in back of us the whole 9holes. So much for satisfying the customer at the front desk.
All in all a great facility and a good value for NCGA members. Course is in good shape especially considering the drought and the water conservation measures in effect in the Livermore Valley. Well worth a visit. Would appreciate more formal bathroom facilities on the course.

A few years ago, I made a request that benches be added to all of the tee boxes for those of us who like to walk. And since walking the course can be quite a feat, sitting down while you are waiting for your opportunity to hit makes it a better course to play. Thanks for listening to my request!

First time out on a Sunday 10:50, starter said it was a busy morning, he had us wait until the foursome was just off the green. We were a twosome and got around nicely in 4hr.15min. Course was in nice condition considering the drought. Very pretty views, sun and plenty of wind :) Nice practice area, fast greens, great day!
