The course is outstanding.
If you are playing for the first time; ask Denise, Charlie, or Ron to arrange for you to play with a group familiar with the course. Most locals are friendly and cooperative, do not be afraid to ask for club selection, yardage, and aiming points. On #5, from the gold tees, a local will give advice of Hit your 140 yard club, aiming at the center of the bunker with a slight fade. Additionally, do not allow the yardage impact your tee selection, opt instead for slope rating.
The greens are typical (high) desert, firm, fast, with a true roll. Do not be afraid to be a 1/2 club short on the approach shot, the ball will generally run out to full club. .
WIth the narrow fairways, difficult lies, and the requisite for thoughtful club selection, pace of play at times is a bit slow, (4:15 to 4:30), however enjoy the scenery and wildlife.
