McDowell Mountain Golf Club (Formerly Sanctuary)
10690 E. Sheena Drive Scottsdale, AZ 85255
Now owned by PGA Tour great, Phil Mickelson and "Coach" Steve Loy, McDowell Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale (formerly Sanctuary Golf Course), has undergone a massive golf cours...
I had never played the Sanctuary course so this was my first time there. The staff was great and I really felt welcomed. The course was in great shape and was fair. The greens were slow due to the recent preparation for winter. Thank goodness because if they were fast it would have been ugly since they have so many little ups and downs and are quite large.
i enjoyed the views and i had them from many perspectives looking endlessly for my ball, very narrow and not forgiving with many balls in play only to be veered out of play and lost (frustrating and costly)
GOOD
We loved the course. Its beautiful and in great condition. It has some interesting & challenging holes but can still be fun. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Its a very good value. Well go again.
Staff were efficient, course was in good condition (more than can be said for my game). The other reviews are right - this is a tight course. If tee shots are a little off line - don't expect the fairway to open up just past that bush - it doesn't and will cost you. It will be either a drop/shot for an unplayable lie or a lost ball. Not a long course - but no room for error. Greens played better than they looked. They were in reasonably good shape - rolled true, with lots of breaks (some subtle). Reminds me a lot of Sunridge Canyon - not surprising since both courses are managed by the same group. Might pay to think on this course - the only 2 birdies I made were on holes where I didn't hit driver off the tee. Ive given average ratings based on the criteria but I feel that that may be a bit harsh - I would say that the course is worth playing (as long as you get a good deal on the price) but you need to take your A-Game with you, or quite a few spare balls.
